The Difference Between Git and GitHub Explained

Hey Reader,

Next week, a new opportunity to shine, right?

Today, I’ll break down the difference between GitHub and Git for you.

So, let's get started!

Git is a version control system.

It helps you keep track of changes to your code.

Think of it as a save game feature for your project.

You can revert to previous versions or see the history of changes.

Git runs locally on your computer.

GitHub is a platform that hosts Git repositories.

It provides a place on the internet to store your code.

GitHub adds features like collaboration tools, issue tracking, and code review.

It makes it easier for teams to work together on a project.

In short:

Git is the tool.

GitHub is the service.

Git = Version control software.

GitHub = Code hosting and collaboration platform.

Both are used to manage code, but in different ways.

Git is like your local notepad.

GitHub is like sharing your notes online with your team.

Why Use Both?

Using Git locally keeps your changes private until you’re ready to share.

Pushing to GitHub makes your code accessible to others.

It allows for collaboration and backup in the cloud.

Happy coding!
